2014 Young Artist Competition Performing Winners


 

Katie Acone

 

Katie Acone is a junior piano performance and pedagogy double major at the University of Oklahoma. Originally from Bellevue, Washington, she studied with Anaida Nagdyan until continuing her studies in Norman with Dr. Ed Gates and currently Dr. Stephen Beus. She has worked for both Interlochen Arts Camp and The American School in Switzerland (TASIS) during college in performance, pedagogical, and other capacities. She pursues her secondary interest in collaboration and musical theatre through chamber groups and employment with the OU School of Musical Theatre. You can see her soloing with the University of Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra later in April.


 

Brandon Wong

 

Percussionist Brandon Wong grew up in Bartlesville, OK where he studied with Steve Craft, before graduating from Bartlesville High School in 2011. He is currently in his third year at the University of Oklahoma, pursuing a Bachelor of Musical Arts with an emphasis in Pre-Med. He is a member of the Mu chapter of the music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Brandon is a student of Dr. Lance Drege and Stuart Langsam, and performs in the University of Oklahoma Steel Band directed by Dr. Andrew Richardson. As a winner of the OU Concerto Competition, he will be performing the second movement of Gillingham’s Concerto No. 2 for Marimba at the Concerto Gala Concert with the OU Symphony Orchestra later this April.
